The Journalism Studies Division’s 12th Graduate Student Colloquium was successfully held in Cape Town on June 3rd 2026, as part of ICA 2026, bringing together an outstanding group of graduate students, early career scholars, and senior researchers from around the world.
The colloquium provided participants with an opportunity to present their research, receive constructive feedback from experienced scholars, and engage in thoughtful discussions on a wide range of topics in journalism studies. The event also fostered professional networking and community building among emerging and established researchers in the field.
The Division extends its sincere thanks to all student participants for their excellent presentations and active engagement throughout the day. We are equally grateful to the respondents and commentators whose expertise and mentorship contributed significantly to the success of the colloquium.
Special appreciation goes to our local hosts and volunteers at the Centre for Film & Media Studies, University of Cape Town, whose dedication and hospitality ensured a welcoming and productive environment for all participants.
The Graduate Student Colloquium remains one of the Journalism Studies Division’s flagship initiatives, reflecting our commitment to supporting the next generation of journalism scholars.
We thank everyone who contributed to this year’s successful event and look forward to continuing these conversations throughout ICA 2026 and beyond.
